Champasak, a small town in southern Laos, was once the throne of the Kingdom of Champasak, a satellite state which was overthrown by the French in 1945. The city provides an ideal connection to Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Today Champasak is small yet lively, with numerous tourists visiting the Wat Phu, the old Khmer ruins built more than 1,000 years ago.
